Figshare has been helping researchers make their data openly available for more than 10 years. We want to offer a way to get more support for sharing larger datasets in a trusted generalist repository.
Figshare+ offers data deposit as a one-time Data Publishing Charge (DPC) to share the datasets and materials supporting a specific publication or project. Added features and expert guidance are also included for sharing your data FAIR-ly.
We frequently get requests from researchers seeking to use figshare.com who need more storage space for their data or larger file size uploads. There are few options for researchers to share TBs of data in a FAIR way. There are also long term ongoing costs in ensuing the data persists.
Figshare+ offers data deposit as a one-time Data Publishing Charge (DPC) to share the datasets and materials supporting a specific publication or project. To be as transparent as possible, we can tell you that nearly all of the DPC cost goes towards covering our costs for long-term, secure, and redundant cloud-based hosting of your data. Published data will be retained and publicly accessible for the lifetime of the repository, with Figshare’s sustainable business model aiming to make it available “forever.” Many funders allow data sharing costs to be included in grant budgets, so you may be able to use grants funds to pay for Figshare+ and can include it in data management and sharing plans in funding proposals.
Because we want researchers to get the most out of their open data, Figshare+ also offers additional license options and metadata compared to figshare.com. During data deposit, personal email support is available and once submitted, a Figshare data expert will conduct a review of the metadata and a spot check of your dataset files and offer guidance, with the main aim of enhancing discoverability and reusability.
Pricing is a one-time fee, a data publishing charge, based on the amount of storage needed for the dataset being shared and also includes deposit support and dataset review. For full details, please see the applicable terms and conditions.
Pricing is based on storage for 'up to 100GB' and then provided in increments of 250GB ($875 per 250GB), an example for up to 1TB of storage would be 4 x $875 = $3,500.
